The Tillamook Loaf Love Tour finally hit my town this past weekend! Excited, we loaded up the car with the kids and went to sample some fine Oregon cheddar.
Tillamook and 3 of their Baby Loaf Busses hit the road earlier this year, touring several western states. On July 24th they were at the Bel Air grocery store in Elk Grove, CA. It was a day I've been looking forward to every since I read about it on Tillamook's Twitter page about 2 months ago. It was great to meet the Tillamook people. They were happy, kind, and excited about cheese. They even let my 8-year-old honk the horn on their modified 1966 VW Microbus.
What to expect
- Samples of Tillamook Medium Cheddar (aged 60 days) and Tillamook Sharp Cheddar (aged 9 months), cut in cubes. And they weren't stingy either. "Go ahead, have some more if you like." The Medium was yummy. The Sharp was very yummy.
- Recipes using Tillamook Cheese. One of these days I'll try making Rustic Fried Sage and Chicken Apple Sausage Mac-n-Cheese with Autumn Chutney. Looks complicated, but it also looks delicious. (Does anyone know where I can buy chicken and apple sausage?)
- A brochure. Okay, not super exciting unless you're as crazy like me about cheese.
- Dollar-off coupons for Tillamook cheese, which we used on a Baby Loaf of Tillamook Colby Jack.
- An assortment of Tillamook pins. Five of them, of which I swiped two. They had "I Loaf you", "Loaf thy neigbour", "All you need is Loaf", "Loaf conquers all", and a pin with a photo of a Tillamook Baby Loaf bus.
More Information
There are two great websites to find out more information about the Tillamook Loaf Love Tour.
LoafLoveTour.com is the official site. They have:
- A Tour Schedule. The tour is about half way over, and ends November 21 in Houston, TX.
- A photo contest (and photo album)
- A video showing how they took (some pretty ugly) 1966 VW MicroBusses and turned them into Baby Loaf Busses
- More stuff.
You might also want to check out TillamookFanClub.com as well for photos, videos, etc.
Where to buy Tillamook Cheese
Tillamook is probably the best selling natural cheese brand in the western United States, so it's pretty easy to find in many grocery stores. (Their ice cream is awesome too, especially Tillamook Mudslide, but it's a little harder to find than the cheese.) If you aren't lucky enough to live somewhere that sells Tillamook, you can always find some at amazon.com's grocery section.

It was great to meet you and your family the other day. Thanks for supporting tillamook. Now you need to make it up to the factory. Oh, and thanks for the pens!

Hey— I recognize that! I stopped by there too.
It's good to see another local with a love for good cheese.
